Lots of people are not sure what they want to do when it comes
to choosing their A levels, often only realising later
in life
where their true interests lie.
At
the ESO we recognise this and, as a consequence, we have
designed
a course tailored to meet the entry requirement to the
degree course. The Summer Science Course (SSC) is also
suited to students who wish to update their skills or ease
themselves gradually back into full-time education. It may also be
useful for students for whom English is not their
first language
and a four week period of scientific instruction
in English would be
beneficial.
The course aims to provide a good understanding of biology,
chemistry and physics. It runs for four weeks each summer (mid
July to mid August), is full time from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, five days
per week and includes practical sessions.
Admission onto the SSC is subject to prior interview and there is an examination at the end of it. To succeed on the
course total commitment and hard work is required but, for those who pass, admission onto the M.Ost course is
assured. Around 95% of students who take the examination pass.
