  ESO Summer Science Course

Students sitting and talking

Many people are not sure what they want to do when it comes to

choosing their A levels, often only realising later in life where their

true interests lie.   At the ESO we recognise this and, as a

consequence, we have designed a course tailored to meet the

entry requirement to the degree course.

The Summer Science Course (SSC) is intended for those wishing to join the ESO Integrated Masters Programme who do not have the required science background to satisfy the entry requirements but who already have proven study skills. This will include those who studied science some years ago and require a refresher course, and those qualified in non-science subjects, who require a re-orientation. It is not intended for school leavers who have failed to meet our offer conditions.

The course runs from mid-July to mid-August and is full-time, with at least 3 days per week class contact (0900-1730h).  Remaining days are allocated to directed study/distance learning.

Admission onto the SSC is subject to prior interview and there is an examination at the end of it. To succeed on the course total commitment and hard work is required but, for those who pass, admission onto the M.Ost course is assured. In previous years around 95% of students who took the examination passed.
