Saturday 16th May 2009 - Boxley

Lecturer:          Dr Judith Simon Prager, PhD

Subject:            Beyond Verbal First Aid: Empowering Your Patients' Own Inner

                          Healing For Greater Success

Cost:                 £125 (includes lunch and refreshments)

This one-day course will be conducted by Judith Simon Prager, PhD, who is an expert on the effects of words and thoughts on patient outcomes.  The Verbal First Aid protocol is used in medical centers and by first responders across the United States.  When a patient is frightened or in pain or crisis, he/she may slip into in altered state of consciousness, and at such times, what is said by a medical professional or authority figure can have a physiological effect on the patient through the belief system and the autonomic nervous system.  The right words can mean the difference between pain and comfort, panic and calm, even life and death.

The course will consist of four segments:

  • The Physiology of Emotions will discuss how thoughts and images play out in the mind/body and affect the possibilities of healing.
  • The Verbal First Aid protocol provides tools for speaking to patients in such a way as to engage the patient’s own inner healing capabilities and set a course for recovery.
  • Verbal First Aid for Children offers ways of working with younger patients to gain cooperation and compliance and transform pain to comfort and fear to self-mastery.
  • Guided Imagery and Basic Self-Hypnosis are techniques that can help patients do their part in their own recovery and add much to your reputation. Prenatal guided imagery will also be discussed.
  • If time permits, there will also be an overview of current techniques for releasing trauma from the body.

  BIOGRAPHY

Judith Simon Prager is a hypnotherapist and energy healer with a PhD in psychology and a private practice in Los Angeles, California, USA.  She is co-author of the book The Worst Is Over:  What To Say When Every Moment Counts, which has been called “The ‘bible’ for crisis communication” by The International Journal of Emergency Mental Health

Dr. Prager has trained physicians, nurses, and first responders across the United States in Verbal First Aid.  She was invited to China in the summer of 2008 to train crisis counselors there who were helping survivors of the twin disasters of earthquakes (in which 80,000 people lost their lives) and floods. She is currently designing a course in Verbal First Aid for in the largest psychology institute in Beijing.  She is a keynote speaker at the Association of Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Healing and has been an instructor in the UCLA Ext. Writers’ Program with her husband, the poet Harry Youtt, since 1991.
