Clinical training is a pivotal part of an osteopathic student's studies. During their time at the ESO, students are encouraged to develop skills of evaluation, reasoning, analysis and diagnosis. In addition to this, clinical training aids students in the development of therapeutic relationships appropriate to contemporary clinical practice.
The Integrated Masters in Osteopathy degree provides students with gradual exposure to the clinic and clinical environment. Each student will have to spend 1,000 hours in the clinic (split
between treating and observing), which includes a minimum of 50 new patient consultations. All treatments in clinic are carried out under the supervision of a clinic tutor, who will be an experienced practising osteopath.
We see a broad variety of patients in the clinic, from all social backgrounds, ages and occupations, and from a wide geographical area. As well as the general outpatients’ clinic, the ESO offers a variety of specialist clinics that allow students to gain a range of experience with varying patient groups and conditions. These include:
• Maternity Clinic
• Children's Clinic
• Sports Injury Clinic
The ESO also offers a satellite charitable clinic that helps to integrate osteopathy into the community, providing access to osteopathic treatment for those for whom it might not otherwise be available.
The ESO's teaching clinic is conveniently located in the nearby Maidstone town centre.
