The ESO produces comprehensive lists of housing throughout the summer, which can be viewed via a password-protected section of the ESO website from early July onwards. This section of the website is available to all students once they have accepted a place on the course and enables them to get in touch with each other prior to starting.
Private sector accommodation
Private sector accommodation is relatively inexpensive in Maidstone, where you can expect to pay around £60 per week for a room in a house with other students. This is certainly the way most of our students live, and the ESO helps by putting new students who want to share accommodation in touch with each other prior to the beginning of the course. The best thing to do is to arrange a day to meet up in Maidstone and view several properties together.
It should be noted that properties are not vetted by the ESO
and we strongly recommend viewing to ensure suitability. Many of the
local landlords are known to us and we would be happy to offer
advice should you need it.
The local paper, the Kent Messenger, which comes out every
Friday, also provides extensive listings of affordable property
to let in the area and details can also be found on their website www.kenthomes.co.uk.
If you prefer to live on your own, you should have no trouble finding a flat to rent. Obviously this is more costly and you should expect to pay about £100 per week for this type of accommodation.
Dedicated student accommodation
Dedicated student accommodation is now available in central Maidstone through CRM* (a company specialising in the provision of student accommodation across the country). Further details can be found on their website www.crm-students.com.
*Please note that CRM is not affiliated to the ESO or to the University of Greenwich
