The ESO is recognised globally as a leading osteopathic institution. We pride ourselves on the breadth of our undergraduate programme, preparing graduates for a fulfilling and rewarding career as an independent healthcare practitioner.
Why choose the ESO?
- We offer a 4-year, full-time course, accredited by the General Osteopathic Council;
- Our students gain 1000 hours of supervised clinical experience within an established teaching clinic, seeing approximately 50 new patients;
- We have a wide range of nationalities and age groups represented at the School, creating a truly cosmopolitan environment;
- We are situated in the heart of Kent, just 50 minutes from London and convenient for continental Europe.
- Our international links provide a wide range of professional opportunities for graduates;
No upfront costs
Tuition fees at the ESO will be £9,000 per year for UK/EU undergraduates for 2012 entry. This level of fee will enable the School to continue to deliver its high quality teaching programme and maintain its level of contact hours. UK applicants from low income households may be eligible for financial support through the National Scholarship Programme (see below for details).
All UK and EU applicants, studying at university level for the first time, can obtain a loan from the UK government to cover the cost of tuition fees. It is important to note that:-
- You will only start to pay back your student loan after you have completed the course and are earning over £21,000 per year;
- When you start repaying the loan, monthly repayments are affordable - they are based on what you earn, not what you owe;
- If your earnings fall beneath the £21,000 threshold your payments will stop;
- Any outstanding contributions will be written off after 30 years.
The table below illustrates the level of repayments, relative to earnings:

As a new student, starting a degree course in 2012/13, you are able to apply for student finance from December 2011 onwards. You do not have to have a confirmed university place in order to apply for a loan. Simply apply using the details of your first choice institution - if necessary this can be amended online at a later date.
Of course you do not have to take out a government loan and may pay the fees from your own resources. Students who choose to pay their tuition fees in advance will be eligible for a 5% discount at the time of registration.
Payment plans
If you cannot pay the full amount of the tuition fees at the time of registration you can pay in two instalments. The first payment will be due in September 2012 when you register on-line (and must be at least 50% of the balance) and the second (and final) payment will be due before the last Friday in January 2013.
Help with living costs
You will also need money to support yourself during your studies. UK applicants who have not studied at university level before can apply for support from the government to help with living costs. This is available in the form of grants and loans and the amount available depends on your living circumstances and household income. The table below illustrates the kind of support on offer to students living away from home and studying outside London.

National Scholarship Programme
Eligible students from low income households, who achieve the entry criteria, may benefit from the National Scholarship Programme which the ESO, through its partnership with the University of Greenwich, will be participating in. More information is available at http://www2.gre.ac.uk/study/finance/nsp
Bursaries
Bursaries may be available through the University of Greenwich; those applicable to ESO students will be published on this site shortly.
Degree level applicants
The above funding information relates to students who are studying at university level for the first time - those who already hold a degree level qualification will not be eligible for government funding. The ESO is keen to ensure that highly qualified candidates are not deterred from applying to the School and is considering a Bursary/Scholarship scheme specifically aimed at those who have previously studied at a higher level. Further details will be available shortly.
