Applied Anatomy/General Anatomy
Constituting a fundamental aspect of osteopathy, this detailed analysis of structure and function underpins almost every aspect of teaching throughout the course.
Physiology/Neural Science/Embryology
Being delivered hand in hand with the other basic science constituents, these in-depth courses allow our students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the development and normal functioning of the human body.
Pharmacology
An outline course which provides an insight into the physiological basis of drug therapy.
Prosection
This course puts theory into practice. Our students have the opportunity to observe staged human dissection which helps them gain an appreciation of the “real life” application of anatomy, neuroanatomy and physiology.
Anthropology
Understanding the developmental evolution of the human body provides an insight into the biomechanical adaptations that have led to the bipedal stance and different body postures.
Library Skills/computing and study skills
These courses help orientate the student into studying at the ESO.
Library skills: a good understanding of the facilities of a modern library and how to use it to aid your studies is essential for the student to be able to draw on up to the minute research, articles and publications.
Computing skills: this non-compulsory course is designed for students who feel their computing skills are a bit rusty.
Study skills: This course has been developed for students who may have been away from formal education for some time and need help in managing their time and studying effectively.
History of Osteopathy/Principles of Osteopathy
Fundamentally underpinning the entirety of an osteopathic education, this paramount aspect of the course provides a detailed insight into the development of osteopathy from its genesis to the present day and the principles that support it.
Biomechanics
An evolutionary subject that is studied throughout the degree. It forms a physiological and structural basis to osteopathic diagnosis and technique.
Research project/research methodology/statistics
An integral part of the M.Ost degree is the development of a research-based project. These courses provide the student with the skills necessary for research based learning.
Complementary Studies
Provides an insight into other complementary health care therapies and psychology. It provides a basis upon which our students can evaluate the potential appropriateness and outcomes of inter-practitioner referral.
